This article describes the effects of cocaine abuse from several methods of use such as inhalation of vaporized cocaine, intravenous use, and the smoking of coca paste and emphasizes the temporary euphoria achieved by using cocaine and the creation of a cycle of dependency that leads to compulsive use.
Abstract
Individual physical and psychological dependencies resulting from cocaine use are discussed in detail as well as the national corruption, violence, and political instability resulting from illicit cocaine traffic. Cocaine is not a safe drug and can be lethal, and there is no way to treat cocaine abuse. Individual rehabilitation and therapy are necessary as well as complete abstinence from all drugs. A cocaine abuser's family members should be involved in his or her treatment. 11 references. (Author abstract modified)
