This videotape discusses the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Dupont Kevlar Survivors’ Club.
Abstract
There are more than 2,000 police officers in the Kevlar Survivors’ Club. For a lot of them, routine traffic stops turned into a shooting incident where wearing their soft body armor saved their lives. Members of the club tell how wearing their body armor made the difference between life and death. Survivors tell their stories in their own words. Survivors of potentially fatal or disabling injuries are encouraged to contact the club and share their experiences. Each year police officers are honored for their decision to wear these vests. The club disseminates data on what weapons the “bad guys” are currently carrying. Officers successfully respond to these threats by relying on their training and wearing body armor.
