PROCESS FOR OBTAINING A REPRODUCITON OF THE SHAPE AND ARRANGEMENT OF THE SCALES OF A HAIR CUTICLE.
Abstract
IN THIS PROCEDURE, THE HAIR IS FIRST EXAMINED MICROSCOPICALLY TO ASCERTAIN THE PRESENCE OF FOREIGN MATERIALS. NEXT, THE HAIR IS WASHED IN AN ORGANIC SOLVENT, FIXED ON A SLIDE, AND LIGHTLY SPREAD WITH A FILM COATER. WHEN DRY, THE HAIR IS REMOVED LEAVING A WELL-DEFINED IMPRESSION OF THE CUTICLE SCALE PATTERN. THE ADVANTAGE OF THIS METHOD IS THE RAPIDITY AND EASE WITH WHICH A LARGE NUMBER OF SCALE CASTS CAN BE MADE. THIS TECHNIQUE IS NOT RECOMMENDED, HOWEVER, WHEN THE HAIR IS TO BE SUBJECTED TO NEUTRON ACTIVATION ANALYSIS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
