Abstract
DEVELOPMENT OF 1919 RACIAL RIOTS AROUND THE COUNTRY FOCUSES MOST ATTENTION ON A PARTICULAR SUMMER OF VIOLENCE IN CHICAGO. A RATHER PESSIMISTIC VIEW OF SOCIAL AND POLITICAL ATMOSPHERE THAT THIS COUNTRY OFFERS TO ITS EX-SLAVES IS PRESENTED. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED ARE, LABOR CONFLICT AND RACIAL VIOLENCE, CONTESTED NEIGHBORHOODS AND BOMBINGS, POLITICS DURING RACIAL TENSIONS AND RIOTS, THE CHANGING ATTITUDES OF BLACKS AND THE POLICE, MILITANCY, THE FUTURE, AND RACIAL VIOLENCE TODAY.
