THE NEED FOR GOOD PUBLIC RELATIONS BETWEEN SECURITY OFFICERS AND THE PEOPLE THEY DEAL WITH IS STRESSED IN THIS SLIDE AND CASSETTE PROGRAM.
Abstract
AN EXAMPLE OF HOW GOOD PUBLIC RELATIONS SHOULD BE PRACTICED, THE EFFECT ON THE SECURITY OFFICER, THE JOB, AND EVERYONE WHO COMES IN CONTACT WITH THE OFFICER IS PRESENTED. A MAN PREPARING TO GO OFF TO WORK STARTS HIS DAY THE WRONG WAY. HE CANNOT FIND A CLEAN SHIRT, WHEN HE GETS TO THE CLEANER, THEY WILL NOT CHANGE HIS MONEY; THE DRUG STORE NEARBY WILL NOT CHANGE HIS MONEY UNLESS HE BUYS SOMETHING. FINALLY, HE GETS HIS CLEAN SHIRTS, ONLY TO GO ON TO THE GAS STATION TO FIND THAT THEY ARE OUT OF REGULAR GAS. WHEN THE MAN GETS TO WORK, HE IS QUITE ANGRY. THE SECURITY GUARD GREETS THE MAN WITH A FRIENDLY GOOD MORNING, WHICH CHANGES THE EMPLOYEE'S ENTIRE ATTITUDE. THE MANNERISMS, APPEARANCE AND COURTEOUS BEHAVIOR OF THE SECURITY GUARD COMBINE TO MAKE A GOOD IMPRESSION. THE GUARD'S DUTIES ARE TO SEE THAT THE RULES AND REGULATIONS ARE OBEYED AND ENFORCED WITHOUT THE USE OF FORCE. THE GUARD MUST DO THIS BY BEING FIRM, CONSISTENT, AND COURTEOUS. THE DUTIES INVOLVED IN THIS ENFORCEMENT OF RULES ARE ESCORTING VISITORS, PARKING LOT AND TRAFFIC DUTIES, ANSWERING TELEPHONES, AND CHECKING FOR IDENTIFICATION. IN ALL OF THESE DUTIES, THE OFFICER MUST BE CAREFUL NOT TO OFFEND THE PEOPLE COMING IN CONTACT WITH THE COMPANY. THE GUARD MUST ALWAYS BE COURTEOUS, FIRM, AND POLITE. THE SECURITY GUARD REPRESENTS THE COMPANY AND THE SECURITY ORGANIZATION, AND MUST BE CONSTANTLY REMINDED THAT GOOD PUBLIC RELATIONS ARE A VERY IMPORTANT ASPECT OF THE JOB. (BAC)
