INVESTIGATION CONDUCTED AT A NEW ENGLAND HEALTH CENTER REVEALS THE LACK OF AWARENESS OF PSYCHIATRIC PERSONNEL REGARDING THE LEGAL RIGHTS OF PATIENTS.
Abstract
THE DATA, COMPILED FROM AN INTERVIEW OF A SMALL SAMPLE OF PSYCHIATRIC PERSONNEL, SUGGESTS THERE IS A NEED TO DEVELOP AN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM ON LAW FOR ATTENDING STAFF. THE QUESTIONS OF THE INTERVIEW RELATE TO THE PATIENT'S RIGHT AT THE TIME OF AN INVOLUNTARY ADMISSION TO REQUEST A PHYSICIAN OF HIS CHOICE, AND HIS RIGHTS DURING HOSPITALIZATION, WHETHER HE IS INVOLUNTARILY COMMITTED OR VOLUNTARILY ADMITTED.
