This book provides corrections administrators with guidelines for complying with court rulings on inmate access to courts by presenting recommended collections for prison and other institutional law libraries and a State-by-State directory of prison law libraries.
Abstract
Part I reviews U.S. Supreme Court decisions mandating inmates' access to legal materials and discusses three methods of compliance: providing adequate prison law libraries, establishing law school clinical programs in which law students assist inmates, and employing full-time staff attorneys. Part II presents recommended collections for prison and other institutional law libraries. Document listings for general materials are categorized as basic materials, additional materials for Federal and State prison law libraries, and special materials for law libraries in jails, juvenile institutions, and mental institutions. Document listings are also provided for both Federal and State materials for prison and other institutional law libraries. A publishers' directory is also provided. Part III presents recommended collections for prison and other institutional law libraries by Canadian Province and U.S. State. Part IV presents a directory of prison law libraries by State and city within each State. ABI rcb
