A SIGNATURE AFFORDING EFFECTIVE PROTECTION AGAINST FORGERY SHOULD BE LEGIBLE WRITING OF THE FULL NAME WRITTEN CURSIVELY WITH SPEED, SMOOTH LINE QUALITY, AND GRADUATION OF PRESSURE AND SHADING.
Abstract
INTRINSIC QUALITIES OF GOOD SIGNATURES DESIGNED TO DISCOURAGE FORGERY ARE POINTED OUT. THE FOREMOST AIM SHOULD BE TO WRITE THE SIGNATURE IN A HIGHLY SKILLFUL MANNER SO THE INTENDING FORGER WOULD HAVE DIFFICULTY MAKING AN IMITATION. A FORGERY PROOF SIGNATURE SHOULD BE LENGTHY AS WELL AS LEGIBLE, WRITTEN CONTINUOUSLY, HAVE GOOD LINE QUALITY AND BE PRODUCED WITH A FOREARM MOVEMENT. IN ALL IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS, A SIGNATURE SHOULD BE ACCOMPANIED BY A PIECE OF WRITTEN TEXT BEFORE AND AFTER AND WRITTEN CLOSE TO THE TEXT WITHOUT LEAVING ANY SPACES. IT IS FURTHER SUGGESTED THAT ONE SHOULD NEVER SIGN ON A BLANK PIECE OF PAPER AND LEAVE IT TO THE CARE OF OTHERS. IF REVENUE STAMPS MUST BE SIGNED OVER, THE SIGNATORY SHOULD CROSS THE STAMP WITH SEPARATE STROKES AND WRITE THEIR NAME NEXT TO THE REVENUE STAMP. THE SIGNATURE THUS EXECUTED OFFERS THE MAXIMUM POSSIBILITY OF EFFECTIVE PROTECTION AGAINST FORGERY AND MISUSE, SUGGESTIONS ARE GIVEN FOR FURTHER READING ON THE SUBJECT. (MJW)
