GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES FOR POLICEMEN TO USE WHEN TRAILING AND STOPPING VEHICLES, AND INTERROGATING INDIVIDUALS.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR RECOMMENDS RELAYING TO THE RADIO DISPATCHER THE LOCATION AND LICENSE NUMBER OF THE VEHICLE BEING TRAILED BEFORE HE IS STOPPED. HE ALSO SUGGESTS STOPPING A VEHICLE IN A LIGHTED AREA AND PULLING BEHIND THE CAR, SLIGHTLY TO THE LEFT. BEFORE APPROACHING THE VEHICLE, THE OUTSIDE RADIO SPEAKER SHOULD BE TURNED ON, AND THE GUN HAND SHOULD BE KEPT FREE. A CAR SHOULD ALWAYS BE APPROACHED FROM THE SIDE, AND THE OFFICER SHOULD STAND BEHIND THE CENTER POST. IT IS FURTHER ADVISED THAT IN CASES OF ARREST, A ONE MAN UNIT SHOULD REQUEST A TRANSPORT VEHICLE.
