DESCRIPTION AND EVALUATION OF VARIOUS AVAILABLE BURGLAR ALARM SYSTEMS.
Abstract
THE BUSINESSMAN NEEDS SUFFICIENT INFORMATION IN ORDER TO CHOOSE THE PROPER ALARM SYSTEM FOR HIS INDIVIDUAL NEEDS. FOUR CATEGORIES OF ELECTRONIC AND ELECTRO-MECHANICAL ALARMS ARE DISCUSSED - LOCAL ALARM SYSTEMS IN WHICH THE DETECTION DEVICES ARE CONNECTED TO AN ALARM ON THE PREMISES, CENTRAL STATIONS WHICH TRANSMIT AN ALARM TO A REMOTE SUPERVISORY STATION VIA LEASED TELEPHONE LINES, DIRECT CONNECT SYSTEMS WHICH TRANSMIT TO POLICE STATIONS RATHER THAN PRIVATE AGENCIES, AND PROPRIETARY ALARM SYSTEMS WHICH ARE MONITORED AND OWNED BY THE USER. PERIMETER, POINT OR OBJECT, AREA, AND HOLDUP PROTECTION METHODS ARE COVERED. THE PRINCIPAL PART OF THE TEXT IS DEVOTED TO A DETAILED DISCUSSION OF VARIOUS TYPES OF DETECTION DEVICES, INCLUDING METHODS OF APPLICATION, ADVANTAGES, DISADVANTAGES, AND COST ESTIMATES OF EACH DEVICE. IN ADDITION, THE AUTHOR GIVES BROAD GUIDELINES TO ALERT THE USER TO IMPROPER STANDARDS OF INSTALLATION AND SERVICE. ALTHOUGH WRITTEN PRIMARILY FOR THE SMALL BUSINESSMAN, THE INFORMATION PROVIDED WOULD BE OF VALUE TO MANY OTHERS, INCLUDING HOME-OWNERS WHO WISH TO PROTECT THEIR PREMISES. (SNI ABSTRACT)
