Abstract
The advice covers the specific items that should be considered in determining whether a house is vulnerable to burglars and explains the basic steps that should be taken inside and outside the house. The guidelines also explain various types of doors, door locks, methods of protecting special types of doors like sliding glass doors, locking and security devices for windows, and the deterrent effect of lighting. Details are also given on alarm systems, property identification, the establishment of a residential strong room, Neighborhood Watch programs, and methods of improving personal security at home and away from home. A checklist for use in identifying a suspect, data on property crime in New Jersey municipalities, and an explanation of the National Sheriffs' Operation Identification Registry are included. Illustrations are also provided.
