After an overview of the study and a description of study information processing, this codebook lists the variables and coding for a data set generated by the Prosecutors Management Information System (PROMIS) and containing information on all cases and defendants brought to the Superior Court Division of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia.
Abstract
The data cover defendant characteristics, charges, dismissals and continuances, proceedings dates, final disposition, and sentencing. The 1974 data set contains 340 variables for 17,534 cases, and the 1975 data set contains 338 variables for 18,893 cases. The appendix contains some of the study instruments and other materials related to study methodology.
