DEFINES THE INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS OF CRIME REPORT USERS AND IDENTIFIES THE DATA ELEMENTS THAT WILL SATISFY THOSE REQUIREMENTS.
Abstract
THE REQUIREMENTS ANALYSIS IDENTIFIED THOSE ELEMENTS NEEDED AT EACH STAGE OF THE CRIME REPORTING PROCESS AND DISCRIMINATED BETWEEN THE ELEMENTS THAT NEEDED TO BE STANDARDIZED AND THOSE THAT DID NOT. FORMS WERE DEVELOPED THAT COLLECT THE NECESSARY DATA, STANDARDIZING ITS FORMAT WHERE NECESSARY AS PREVIOUSLY DEFINED. IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE DATA COLLECTION TIME AND MAXIMIZE THE INTEGRITY OF THE DATA COLLECTION PROCESS, THE SYSTEM WAS DESIGNED WITH THREE FUNCTIONAL MODULES. THESE ARE THE DATA CAPTURE MODULE, A REPORT MANAGEMENT AND CONTROL MODULE, AND A DATA UTILIZATION MODULE. THESE THREE MODULES ARE SPECIFIED BECAUSE AN EFFECTIVE CRIME REPORTING SYSTEM CANNOT OPERATE WITHOUT SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES FOR THE COLLECTION, CONTROL, STORAGE AND UTILIZATION OF DATA. THE AUTHORS REALIZE THAT IT IS THE USE OF THE DATA WHICH JUSTIFIES THE ENTIRE REPORTING SYSTEM. FOR THAT REASON THE INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS AND USE ANALYSIS ARE THE BASIS FOR THIS SYSTEM DESIGN.
