This article discusses the development and implementation of a structured approach to inservice training for police officers in St. Louis County that is specific but still offers flexibility.
Abstract
Project 48 was developed by the St. Louis County and Municipal Police Academy to offer law enforcement agencies a specific but flexible menu of inservice training options within a structured framework. The program was initially designed for patrol officers, detectives and supervisors. Participants are required to attend a minimum of 48 hours of training from a core curriculum over a 3-year period. Core training categories include legal studies, interpersonal perspectives, technical studies and skill development. The development process and implementation of Project 48 is described. 1 table
