This document describes 19 programs that support Bureau of Justice Assistance efforts to facilitate the provision of behavioral health services in support of law enforcement and the criminal justice system.

Abstract

Nineteen programs geared toward serving individuals suffering from mental health disorders or substance abuse disorders are described in this document; these programs encourage cross-system collaboration, the implementation and improvement of education and training for corrections officers and policy, and reducing the impact of substance abuse, among other goals. Programs include: the Adult Treatment Court Program; Community Courts Initiative; Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Use Program (COSSUP); Collaborative Crisis Response Training Program; Connect and Protect Program – Law enforcement Behavioral Health Responses; Encouraging Innovation – Field Initiated Program; Drug Data Research Center to Combat the Opioid Crisis; Harold Rogers Prescription Drug Monitoring Program; Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program; Kevin and Avonte Program – Reducing Injury and Death of Missing Individuals with Dementia and Developmental Disabilities; Justice Reinvestment Initiative State-level Technical Assistance; National Reentry Resource Center and Second Chance Technical Assistance (TTA); National Initiative to Enhance Police Engagement with People with Behavioral Health Conditions and Developmental Disabilities; Swift, Certain, and Fair (SCF) Supervision Program – Applying the Principles behind Project HOPE; National Training and Technical Assistance Center (BJA NTTAC); Tribal Justice Systems Strategic Planning Program; Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Program; Tribal Justice Systems Program; and the Tribal Justice Systems Infrastructure Program.
