This is an overview of programs that the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) will support in fiscal year (FY) 2000.
Abstract
BJA's mission is to provide leadership and assistance to local criminal justice strategies to achieve safe communities. Funds appropriated for BJA activities in FY 2000 will support collaborative efforts in every area of the criminal justice system, including law enforcement, crime prevention, the courts, supervision services, prosecution and indigent defense, pretrial services, technology and systems integration, evaluation, training and technical assistance. BJA will also continue to support innovative solutions to local problems through the Open Solicitation Grant Program. The report includes chapters concerning: Empowering Communities, Supporting Law Enforcement, Supporting Innovation in Adjudication, Managing Offenders Under Supervision, Using Technology To Fight Crime, Preventing Victimization and Assisting Victims and Measuring the Effectiveness of Justice Programs. Appendixes
