This report presents and compares juvenile delinquency statistics in Florida from 1982-83 through 1992-93 and includes data on delinquency intake cases received, offender and offense characteristics, juvenile detention, cases handled nonjudicially and judicially, community-based corrections, delinquency commitments, and cases transferred to adult court.
Abstract
The data reveal that the Florida population aged 10-17 increased by 8.9 percent over the 11-year period, while the total number of delinquency cases increased 93 percent. Felony cases increased by 95 percent, misdemeanor cases increased 76 percent, and other delinquency cases increased by 233 percent. The proportion of cases detained has declined from 22 percent to 17 percent of the total cases disposed. Burglary continues to be the charge for which the largest number of youths are reported detained. The proportion of cases transferred to adult court increased from 4 percent to 5 percent.
