Abstract
Whether created in-house or filmed and produced by a professional, the quality of law enforcement training videos is critical. Police training videos need to be of high-quality, contain accurate and realistic training scenarios, and be able to stand the test of time. While quality training videos are a must, they are also expensive to produce, whether they are done by a professional or created in-house. The author discusses how police agencies may pay for training videos and offers advice on determining who should do the work. The benefits and drawbacks of producing videos in-house as well as of hiring professionals to produce the videos are considered; the main reasons to produce training videos in-house are for convenience and cost savings while professionally produced videos send a message to employees that the topic was important enough to pay for a professional. Quality control issues are confronted next and tips are presented for how to safeguard and increase the quality of police training videos. The bottom line is that police training videos should be “interesting, interactive, and informative.” Exhibits
