This volume presents materials from a 4-day conference held in August 1997, sponsored by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, and that focused on the use of technology to support the National Drug Control Strategy.
Abstract
Individual papers focus on the development and testing of nonintrusive inspection systems, strategies for biological control of narcotic plants, effectiveness indicators for drug interdiction technology, strategies of United States Customs, and contraband detection using x-ray technology. Additional papers focus on cargo screening, an integrated optic sensor for drug detection and identification, evaluating prototype cocaine vapor detectors, the detection and identification of drugs at crime scenes, and the detection of cocaine on currency. Further papers focus on information system methodologies; communications, surveillance, and tracking methodologies; information systems methodologies; and chemical tagging and trace detection technologies. Other papers discuss the development of medications for drug treatment, the youth diversion program in Philadelphia sponsored by the Office of National Drug Control Policy, and current developments in cocaine monoclonal antibodies.
