Abstract
The book is divided into 12 sections, each accompanied by review questions: (1) Probation and Parole in Criminal Justice; (2) Juvenile Justice and Young Offenders; (3) Probation and the Courts: History and Administration; (4) Sentencing and the Presentence Investigation; (5) A History of American Prisons; (6) Parole and the Indeterminate Sentence; (7) Parole Administration and Services; (8) Treatment Theory and Practice; (9) Probation and Parole Officers; (10) Probation and Parole Supervision; (11) Special Problems and Programs in Probation and Parole; and (12) Intermediate Punishments. A concluding section examines the question of "success" and the interrelated issue of recidivism, felony probation and the goals of probation and parole. The book reviews the history of probation and parole and its current status, and explores the direction of probation and parole for the 21st century. Figures, notes, references, indexes
