THE MUSHROOMING EXPANSION OF THE SECURITY INDUSTRY IN CANADA - BOTH PRIVATE GUARD AGENCIES AND ALARM MANUFACTURERS - IS DESCRIBED AND INCREASED LEGISLATIVE CONTROL IS ADVOCATED.
Abstract
IN THE PROVINCE OF ONTARIO, FOR INSTANCE, PRIVATE SECURITY GUARDS OUTNUMBER PUBLIC POLICE BY AT LEAST TWO TO ONE AND PROBABLY THREE OR FOUR TO ONE. IN THE LAST TEN YEARS, ALARM MANUFACTURING AND MONITORING AGENCIES HAVE ALMOST DOUBLED THEIR NUMBER. CONCERN IS EXPRESSED BOTH ABOUT THE LACK OF LEGISLATIVE GUIDELINES CONCERNING SECURITY PERSONNEL AND ALARM MANUFACTURING AND ABOUT THE HIGH PERCENTAGE OF FOREIGN CONTROL, PARTICULARLY AMERICAN, IN THESE INDUSTRIES.
