Abstract
WITNESSES AT THIS HEARING OFFERED PRO AND CON REMARKS ON PARTS OF THE PROPOSED LEGISLATION DEALING WITH THE DEGREE TO WHICH A RAPE VICTIM IS REQUIRED TO REVEAL HER PRIOR SEXUAL HISTORY. THIS HISTORY, ACCORDING TO THE BILL'S AUTHOR, IS PERSONAL AND SHOULD BE EXEMPT FROM THE PUBLIC EXPOSURE OF A TRIAL. WITNESSES OPPOSING THE PRIVACY PROVISONS FELT THAT A DEFENDANT'S TRIAL RIGHTS WOULD BE JEOPARDIZED UNLESS THE MEASURE WAS CHANGED. THE WITNESSES INCLUDED WOMEN'S RIGHTS ADVOCATES, DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE OFFICIALS, AND LEGAL AUTHORITIES....BS
