THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS THE PROCEEDINGS OF A SEMINAR HELD IN MODENA, ITALY, IN APRIL 1975, ON ALTERNATIVES TO IMPRISONMENT, AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AND SUPPORT.
Abstract
ACCORDING TO THE ITALIAN PENAL CODE, POST-SENTENCE DETENTION MEASURES IN SPECIAL INSTITUTIONS ARE TO BE APPLIED TO CERTAIN CATEGORIES OF OFFENDERS(E.G. HABITUAL, PROFESSIONAL). THE PRESENT REPORT DISCUSSES THE PROBLEMS CONNECTED WITH THE PERSPECTIVES OPENED BY AN EXPERIMENT OF DE-INSTITUTIONALIZATION OF SUCH MEASURES CONDUCTED NEAR MODENA. IT ALSO DEALS WITH THE MORE GENERAL PROBLEMS CONNECTED WITH THE OPENING OF PENAL INSTITUTIONS TO THE OUTSIDE WORLD AND WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF LOCAL COMMUNITIES AND AUTHORITIES IN THE PROCESS OF REHABILITATION OF OFFENDERS IN LIGHT OF THE NEW ITALIAN LEGISLATION. THE DOCUMENT IS WRITTEN IN ITALIAN....BDS
