MULTIPLE REGRESSION ANALYSES WERE PERFORMED RELATING THE SEVERITY OF OFFENSE AND THE PROBABILITY OF RECIDIVISM OF 295 INMATES TO THEIR PERFORMANCE ON PERSONALITY AND INTELLIGENCE MEASURING INSTRUMENTS.
Abstract
THE INSTRUMENTS USED WERE THE MINNESOTA MULTIPHASIC PERSONALITY INVENTORY (MMPI) AND THE ARMY GENERAL CLASSIFICATION TEST (AGCT), THE LATTER BEING AN I.Q. TEST. THE MMPI WAS FOUND TO BE CORRELATED WITH RECIDIVISM PROBABILITY AND WITH THE RECIDIVISM-RELATED COMPONENT OF THE OFFENSE SEVERITY VARIABLE, WHILE AGCT IQ WAS FOUND TO BE CORRELATED WITH RECIDIVISM PROBABILITY AND THE NONRECIDIVISM-RELATED COMPONENT OF THE OFFENSE SEVERITY VARIABLE. THE IMPLICATIONS OF FUTURE RESEARCH WERE DISCUSSED REGARDING THIS SELECTIVE SENSITIVITY OF THE MMPI TO RECIDIVISM-RELATED VARIABLES. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
