THIS ORGANIZATIONAL AND MANAGEMENT ANALYSIS STUDY, DATED APRIL 1977, WAS PERFORMED FOR THE PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY (MD) SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT, WHOSE 300 PERSONNEL (TOTAL) SERVE 726,000 PERSONS ON 646 SQUARE MILES.
Abstract
THE PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAINING JAIL FACILITIES, COURTROOM SECURITY, AND ISSUING WARRANTS AND CIVIL PAPERS. THE REQUEST FOR TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE CENTERED ON AN INTEREST IN IMPROVING THE ORGANIZATIONAL AND MANAGERIAL ASPECTS OF THE JAIL, WITH A VIEW TOWARDS AIDING THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MANAGEMENT-BY-OBJECTIVES (MBO) APPROACH AND THE CREATION OF AN OPERATIONS MANUAL. THE CONSULTANT'S PRELIMINARY SITE VISIT INVOLVED AN ASSESSMENT OF PROBLEM AREAS, AND A RECOMMENDATION WAS MADE TO PROVIDE FURTHER ASSISTANCE BY SOMEONE WITH A BACKGROUND IN JAIL MANAGEMENT AND CORRECTIONS....MSP
