AN OVERVIEW OF EVALUATION ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATED WITH FIVE FEDERALLY-FUNDED PROGRAMS IN PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD., CARRIED OUT BY THE COUNTY'S CRIMINAL JUSTICE EVALUATION UNIT, IS PRESENTED.
Abstract
THE FIVE PROGRAMS WERE DESIGNATED BY THE COUNTY AS PRIORITIES FOR THE EVALUATION UNIT IN 1977-1978. THE ROVING POLICE LEGAL ADVISOR PROGRAM PROVIDES SERVICES TO POLICE DEPARTMENTS FUNCTIONING AT STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL LEVELS. THE CIVIL LEGAL ADVISOR PROGRAM PROVIDES THE COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT WITH THE SERVICES OF A FULL-TIME CIVIL ATTORNEY. THE SENIORS AGAINST A FEARFUL ENVIRONMENT (SAFE) PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO FOCUS ON CRIME PREVENTION AND CONTROL SERVICES FOR SENIOR CITIZENS IN PARTICULAR TARGET AREAS. IT IS ALSO INTENDED TO REDUCE CITIZEN FEAR OF CRIME AND TO RAISE THE LEVEL OF SECURITY CONSCIOUSNESS AMONG THE ELDERLY. THE HIDDEN ENTRANCE CRISIS OUTREACH PROGRAM'S GOAL IS TO ALLEVIATE FAMILY AND INDIVIDUAL CRISIS SITUATIONS THROUGH COUNSELING. TWO EVALUATIONS OF THIS PROGRAM CONCERN LINKAGES WITH OTHER HUMAN SERVICE AGENCIES AND CRISIS INTERVENTION SERVICES. THE STRATEGY EMPLOYED TO ASSESS ALL PROGRAMS IS PROCESS-FOCUSED EVALUATION. EVALUATION TECHNIQUES AND RESULTS ARE DETAILED. IMPLICATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE EVALUATION FINDINGS ARE DISCUSSED IN TERMS OF JUSTIFICATION FOR FUTURE PROGRAMS FUNDING AND SUGGESTIONS FOR PROGRAM IMPROVEMENT. (DEP)
