Abstract
ACCORDING TO THE 1970 CENSUS FIGURES, BLACKS COMPRISE 1.9 PERCENT OF THE TOTAL NEW MEXICO POPULATION. THE STATE PENITENTIARY IN SANTE FE REPORTS THAT BLACKS COMPRISE 15 PERCENT OF THE TOTAL PRISON POPULATION. FIGURES RELEASED BY 18 PREVENTION/REHABILITATION SERVICE AGENCIES IN ALBUQUERQUE SHOWED THAT FIVE PERCENT OF THEIR CLIENTS ARE BLACK. ONE OF THE GOALS OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IS TO PROVIDE PREVENTION/REHABILITATION SERVICES TO THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY. THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO STUDY BLACK UTILIZATION OF THESE SERVICES AND DETERMINE HOW THESE PROGRAMS COULD BETTER SERVE THE BLACK COMMUNITY.
