THIS BOOKLET DESCRIBES SEVERAL PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES THAT MAY BE USED TO DISCOURAGE BURGLARIES AND ROBBERIES, AID IN THE APPREHENSION OF THE OFFENDERS, REDUCE CRIME INSURANCE COSTS AND FACILITATE INSURANCE CLAIMS.
Abstract
SUCH PREVENTION METHODS AS SUITABLE LOCKS, AN APPROPRIATE ALARM SYSTEM, ADEQUATE INDOOR AND OUTDOOR LIGHTING, AND A SECURE STORE SAFE ARE SUGGESTED AS NORMAL PRECAUTIONS. FOR OWNERS OF HIGH-RISK STORES, SUCH MEASURES AS HEAVY WINDOW SCREENS, BURGLAR-RESISTANT GLASS WINDOWS, PRIVATE POLICE PATROLS, AND WATCHDOGS ARE RECOMMENDED. IT IS STATED THAT THE FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE AGAINST ROBBERY IS EMPLOYEE TRAINING. ROBBERY PROCEDURES SHOULD BE DISCUSSED WITH ALL EMPLOYEES. OTHER SUGGESTED PRECAUTIONS ARE TO LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF CASH ON HAND IN THE STORE, TO ESTABLISH A TWO-MAN OPENING AND CLOSING ROUTINE FOR THE STORE, AND TO BE CAUTIOUS ON NIGHT CALLS. IT IS STATED THAT THE USE OF CERTAIN TYPES OF LOCKS, ALARMS, AND SAFES MAY LOWER INSURANCE PREMIUMS.
