Abstract
An overview of methods to reduce vulnerability to burglary gives the burglar's point of view in choosing targets and lists methods for keeping a low profile. Additional chapters give advice on doors, locks, and keys; window security; lighting, fences, and warning signs; the issue of firearms; and methods of preventing burglary by building contractors and others entering the home. Further chapters explain the types and uses of alarms; give instructions for building a reliable, low-cost alarm; and describe the use of safes and other techniques for concealing valuables. Security measures specific to apartment buildings and for use during vacations are also explained. Advice is also given on the selection and use of insurance. Photographs, diagrams, and an index are supplied.
