These hearings received oral and written testimony on the diversion of bargain-priced prescription drugs that are mislabeled, improperly stored, or counterfeit to the retail market.
          Abstract
Witnesses included representatives of pharmaceutical companies, law enforcement officials, health care providers, and a pharmacists' organization. They discussed the extent of the problem, the methods by which diverters obtain goods, corporate practices that the diverters exploit, and steps that can be taken to stop the diversion. Witnesses noted that the main problem stems from pharmaceuticals that are manufactured overseas or are reimported to the United States from abroad. Exhibits include order forms, letters, a transcript of a telephone conversation, and other materials giving examples of the nature and extent of the problem.
