THIS ARTICLE PRESENTS THE RESULTS OF A FOLLOW-UP SURVEY OF THE SOCIAL SKILLS ORIENTATION COURSE (SSOC) OF WINNIPEG, MANITOBA (CANADA) TO EVALUATE ITS LONG-TERM SUCCESS.
Abstract
THE S.S.O.C. IS A SIX-WEEK PROGRAM DESIGNED TO ASSIST DISADVANTAGED MARGINALLY-EMPLOYABLE INDIVIDUALS. ISSUES SUCH AS EMPLOYMENT STATUS, INCARCERATION AND INCOME WERE ASSESSED. THE MAJORITY OF THE RESULTS INDICATED THAT THOSE PAST PARTICIPANTS WHO COMPLETED S.S.O.C. HAD IMPROVED SIGNIFICANTLY OVER THOSE PARTICIPANTS WHO QUIT S.S.O.C. IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT S.S.O.C. WAS A WORTHWHILE PROGRAM FOR PREPARING THE 'HARD-CORE' DISADVANTAGED TO RETURN TO THE WORK FORCE. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED--EB)
