The records of 52 sex offenders were used to test the predictive value of the Card/Farrall Penile Plethysmograph Audio-Visual Stimulus Materials against three variables derived from a study by Freund of historical differences between gynephiles (males who molest children but whose sexual drives are directed toward adult females) and pedophiles.
Abstract
The participants were divided into gynephile and pedophile classifications on both the historical and the plethysmographic measures. A chi-square statistical evaluation of the correspondence between the historical and the plethysmographic measures distinguishing the two groups demonstrated a level of correspondence between the two at the 0.01 level of confidence. Findings indicated that the response patterns of pedophiles can be determined with reliability, making it possible to avoid pornographic stimuli that might prove immoral and illegal to some and offensive to many.
