DISCUSSION OF A MODERN CORRECTIONAL EDUCATIONAL MODEL DESIGNED TO MEET THE CHANGING NEEDS OF INMATES/STUDENTS.
Abstract
THE DIFFERENT EDUCATIONAL LEVELS DISCUSSED INCLUDE BASIC EDUCATION, SECONDARY PROGRAMS, VOCATIONAL AND INDUSTRIAL EDUCATION, ADVANCED EDUCATION PROGRAMS, AND SOCIAL EDUCATION AND AUXILIARY SUPPORTIVE PROGRAMS. THE EDUCATIONAL MODEL CONSIDERED WOULD BE DESIGNED TO EMPHASIZE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF EDUCATIONAL GOALS STATED IN BEHAVIORAL AND MEASURABLE TERMS AND WOULD STRESS THE COORINDATION OF ALL PROGRAM EFFORTS WITH OTHER INSTITUTIONAL STAFF. IN ADDITION, THIS PROGRAM WOULD UTILIZE INDIVIDUAL PRESCRIPTIVE INSTRUCTION ALONG WITH PROGRAMMED MATERIALS REINFORCED BY PARTICIPATION IN SMALL CLASSES, INTENSIVE TUTORING, AND A STRUCTURED INCENTIVE ARRANGEMENT. ALSO DISCUSSED ARE THE USE OF INMATE TUTORS, OUTSIDE VOLUNTEERS, AND OTHER COMMUNITY RESOURCES.
