Abstract
IT IS REPORTED THAT LAST YEAR OREGON'S BUREAU OF POLICE ESTABLISHED 14 GOALS AND 80 SUBOBJECTIVES WHICH WERE TO BE ACCOMPLISHED WITHIN SPECIFIED TIME FRAMES DURING THE NEXT 1 TO 4 YEARS. SOME EXAMPLES OF THE PROJECTS INITIATED IN 1977 ARE DESCRIBED. PROGRAMS UNDETAKEN INCLUDE COUNSELING SERVICES FOR PERSONNEL AND THEIR FAMILIES, A FLEET SAFETY PROGRAM, A PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT SYSTEM FOR ALL RANKS AND POSITIONS WITHIN THE BUREAU, AND THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A SYSTEM OF CRIME ANALYSIS INFORMATION WHICH WILL PROVIDE OPERATIONAL PERSONNEL WITH CRIME-SPECIFIC DATA FOR THE PURPOSE OF PLANNING PRESENT AND FUTURE ACTIVITIES IN DEPLOYMENT AND TACTICS. ALSO INCLUDED ARE A 10-YEAR COMPARISON OF INDEX OFFENSES AND CLEARANCES, A CHART CLASSIFYING STOLEN PROPERTY, A FATAL ACCIDENT PROFILE, OFFICER ASSAULT STATISTICS, AND DATA ON ARRESTS OF PERSONS OVER AND UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE. CITY MAPS ARE PROVIDED, SHOWING THE FREQUENCY OF SPECIFIC TYPES OF CRIME IN EACH DISTRICT. (RCB)
