This report documents the population characteristics of inmates in Virginia Department of Corrections (DOC) facilities in July 1993.
Abstract
The average number of offenders incarcerated in Virginia facilities in that month was 17,074, an increase of 0.3 percent from the previous month and an increase of 1.0 percent from the 1992 figure. State facilities have an operational capacity of 14,711, therefore the Virginia DOC was operating at 115.9 percent capacity. The tables present average daily population figures and numbers of offenders housed in major institutions, field units, work release units, and prerelease centers.
