Abstract
BEGINNING WITH A HISTORY OF 'POLICE' AS AN EXTENSION OF AUTHORITY IN POWER, IT DEALS WITH THE GROWTH IN OUR COMPLEX CIVILIZATION OF CRIME AND OF POLICE ORGANIZATIONS TO COMBAT IT, INCLUDING THE TRAINING AND DUTIES OF THE POLICEMAN, THE DETECTIVE, AND THE SPECIALISTS WHOSE SKILL, EXPERIENCE, AND TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE BACK UP THE PATROLMAN ON HIS BEAT.
