Abstract
THE POLICE CHIEF OF MENLO, CALIFORNIA DESCRIBES HIS DEPARTMENT, WHICH IS ALREADY COMMITTED TO THIS NEW STYLE OF POLICE WORK. IN THE DISCUSSION THAT FOLLOWS, APPROVAL IS MIXED WITH CONCERN OVER THE EXTENT TO WHICH THIS BROADENED DISCRETION WILL BE EXERCISED. THIS TAPE IS PART OF A SERIES OF EIGHT TAPES (NCJ-31870-31877) ON THE POSTURE OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IN THE YEAR 2000, WHICH SELLS FOR $59.40. THE TAPES WERE EDITED FROM THE PROCEEDINGS OF A CONFERENCE ON 'THE POLITICS OF CHANGE IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM'.
