This volume presents 27 articles submitted in response to a call for papers for a conference hosted by the FBI and focusing on the ways in which mental health professionals could aid police officers and agencies in their daily activities and operations.
Abstract
Individual papers consider routine mental health checkups and activities for law enforcement personnel involved in dealing with hostage and terrorist incidents, the effectiveness of police training involving psychology, police occupational stress and its management, and police peer counseling. Other papers examined forensic hypnosis, the use of drawings in child sexual abuse investigations, the competency and credibility of juvenile witnesses, and criminal personality profiling. Further papers focused on tactical communications techniques in conflict situations, issues related to fear, the validation of self-reported drug use by police recruits, training to reduce incidents of police misconduct, and genetic sources of psychopathic deviancy.
