POLICE EXECUTIVE PERSONALITY TRAITS AS MEASURED BY A PERSONALITY INVENTORY ADMINISTERED AT THE BEGINNING AND END OF IN-SERVICE EXECUTIVE AND LEADERSHIP TRAINING.
Abstract
LEADERSHIP TRAINING OF MEN, ALREADY POSSESSING VARYING LEVELS OF LEADERSHIP SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE PRIOR TO TRAINING, COULD EFFECTIVELY DECREASE SADISM TENDENCIES AND AT THE SAME TIME INCREASE VERBAL AGGRESSION, THE DRIVE FOR ACHIEVEMENT LEVEL, AND THE INITIATIVE LEVEL. FURTHER, THE POLICE EXECUTIVES AS A GROUP EXHIBITED GREATER SOCIAL CONFORMITY, GREATER SUBMISSIVENESS TO AUTHORITY, AND GREATER INITIATIVE THAN THE GENERAL POPULATION. AT THE SAME TIME, THEY EXHIBITED LOWER LEVELS OF SADISM AND CREATIVITY THAN THE GENERAL POPULATION. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED).
