SOURCES OF POLICE CORRUPTION AND RECOMMENDATIONS TO POLICE ADMINISTRATORS TO ALLEVIATE SOME OF THE CAUSES.
Abstract
POLICE CORRUPTION IS OFTEN THE RESULT OF BRIBERY - BY BUSINESSMEN, POLITICIANS, AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC IN RETURN FOR FAVORS, SUCH AS PARKING PRIVILEGES. THE AUTHOR RECOMMENDS THAT POLICE ADMINISTRATORS COMMUNICATE THEIR VIEWS AGAINST CORRUPTION TO BOTH POLICEMEN AND THE PUBLIC, ESTABLISH EFFECTIVE ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURES TO CONTROL CORRUPTION, SELECTIVELY ENFORCE 'VICTIMLESS CRIMES', AND FIND WAYS OF MAKING THE LEGITIMATE REWARDS OF GOOD POLICE WORK COMPETITIVE WITH THE ILLEGITIMATE REWARDS OF CORRUPT POLICE ACTION.
