This May 2013 edition contains seven articles and eight columns covering subjects dealing with officer safety and wellness. The first article presents information on National Peace Officers Memorial Day, scheduled for May 15, 2013. The second article discusses the death of a State trooper in Washington State, while the third article presents information on the Center for Officer Safety and Wellness. The fourth article examines how risk mitigation can lead to fewer officer fatalities, while the fifth article discusses ways to respond to calls with suicidal suspects. The sixth article discusses ways to prepare the emergency community to respond to hybrid targeted violence, while the seventh and final article discusses equipment enhancing officer protection. The eight columns in this edition includes a message from the president of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, a legislative alert on firearms legislation, a discussion on the need for police departments to have a social network investigations policy; and a brief discussion on research in California focusing on safe driving.
