GUIDELINES FOR CADET SELECTION AND TRAINING, AIMED AT REDUCING RECRUITMENT AND COMMUNITY INFORMATION PROBLEMS.
Abstract
THE POLICE CADET PROGRAM, WHICH OPERATES IN DIFFERENT FASHIONS THROUGHOUT THE NATION AND ABROAD, ALLOWS STUDENTS TO EXPLORE LAW ENFORCEMENT AS A CAREER AND, AT THE SAME TIME, RETURN INFORMATION ON POLICE WORK TO NEIGHBORHOODS AND COLLEGE CAMPUSES. PRESENTED IN THIS ARTICLE ARE SELECTION REQUIREMENTS AND ELEMENTS OF CLASSROOM AND FIELD ORIENTATION NECESSARY FOR AN EFFECTIVE TRAINING PROGRAM. INCLUDED IS A LISTING OF JOBS WHICH CAN BE PERFORMED BY CADETS, AS COMPOSED BY A CALIFORNIA POLICE DEPARTMENT. THE CATEGORIES ARE DESIGNED TO EASE THE BURDEN OF THE INDIVIDUAL UNITS AND TO REDUCE THE NEED FOR DIRECT SUPERVISION. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
