SOCIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF THE INTRODUCTION OF TRAFFIC OFFICERS TO SUPERVISE PARKED VEHICLES IN MANCHESTER AND SALFORD, ENGLAND.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR EXAMINES SOME OF THE POPULAR CONCEPTIONS HELD BY THE PUBLIC OF TRAFFIC WARDENS AND RELATES THESE CONCEPTIONS TO THE ADMINISTRATIVE SYSTEM UNDER WHICH THE WARDENS OPERATE. AN ANALYSIS OF THE WARDENS' CULTURAL VALUES AND ATTITUDES TO THEIR JOB IS MADE, AND THE SOCIOLOGICAL RELEVANCE OF THE MOTOR CAR IS DISCUSSED. IT IS INDICATED THAT SOME ASPECTS OF THE TRAFFIC WARDENS' BEHAVIOR ARE EXPLAINED BY THEIR SOCIAL SETTING.
