EXAMINATION OF THE UNIQUE NATURE OF POLICE POWER AND AUTHORITY.
Abstract
DISCUSSED IS THE TEMPTATION TO RESORT TO VIOLENCE THAT ACCOMPANIES POWER. POLICING IS EXPLORED BOTH AS A VOCATION AND AS A PROFESSION, WITH EMPHASIS ON WHY INDIVIDUALS CHOOSE POLICE CAREERS. ALSO CONSIDERED ARE THE ROLE OF POLICE IN SOCIETY AND THEIR RELATION TO POWER AND THE ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE. THE AUTHOR CONTENDS THAT IF THE POLICE CONTINUE TO USE THE SAME METHODS AND PROCEDURES, SOCIETY WILL EVENTUALLY DETERIORATE INTO A REIGN OF TERROR. --IN FRENCH
