EVALUATION OF A PHILADELPHIA PROJECT TO DEVELOP AMONG JUVENILE GANG MEMBERS A SENSE OF SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND SELF-ESTEEM IN ORDER TO OBVIATE THE NEED FOR CRIMINAL AND ANTI-SOCIAL ACTING OUT BEHAVIOR.
Abstract
THIS PROJECT HAS SUCCESSFULLY RELIED ON ATTITUDINAL TRAINING, RECREATION, EDUCATION ACTIVITIES AND JOB COUNSELING. DESPITE THE FACT THAT GANG ACTIVITY AND GANG RELATED DEATHS WERE DOWN IN PHILADELPHIA, THE EVALUATORS FELT IT WAS PREMATURE TO ASCRIBE THESE RESULTS TO THE SAFE-STREETS PROJECT. TABLES ARE PRESENTED RELATING TO GANG ACTIVITY AND PARTICIPATION IN THE PROJECT.
