TWO GROUP HOMES WITHIN A SINGLE PROGRAM ARE JUDGED EFFECTIVE IN PROVIDING ALTERNATIVE CARE FOR JUVENILES IN NEED OF INTERVENTION OUTSIDE THEIR HOME ENVIRONMENTS.
Abstract
THE HOMES, WHICH HAVE THUS FAR ACCOMMODATED NINE SUCH JUVENILES, ACCEPT REFERRALS BY THE COURTS AND OTHER SOCIAL AND COMMUNITY AGENCIES. THE PROGRAM HAS BEEN TAKING IN YOUNGSTERS WHO HAVE HAD CONTACT WITH CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES AND COME FROM LOW INCOME, MULTIPROBLEMED FAMILIES; PRIMARY REFERRAL SOURCES HAVE BEEN THE COURTS, PAROLE OFFICERS OR THE FAMILIES. THE REHABILITATIVE ASPECTS OF THE HOMELIKE SETTINGS ARE AUGMENTED BY REGIMENS OF INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP COUNSELING, WORK THERAPY, AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES. THIS REPORT PROFILES THE PROGRAM'S CLIENTS TO DATE AND DESCRIBES ITS STAFFING AND VARIOUS ACTIVITIES. SAMPLE DIAGNOSTIC AND WEEKLY PROGRESS FORMS USED AT THE HOMES ARE INCLUDED ALONG WITH THE CLIENTS' DAILY SCHEDULE. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE MADE IN RESPECT TO HOME CAPACITY, STAFFING, BUDGETING, SPECIALIZED COUNSELING AREAS, AND EXPANSION OF CERTAIN TYPES OF ACTIVITY.
