Abstract
The paper contains a final discussion of policing and crime prevention and offers insights into the future of crime prevention strategies and the role of the police in these strategies. The paper also includes discussions of the historical aspects of policing and crime prevention, policing and crime prevention in the academic setting, and policing and crime prevention programs at work. Crime prevention or proactive deterrence refers to the ability of the police to eliminate completely those factors that could lead to crime, in contrast to crime suppression, that is, the attempt to stop crime prior to or during its commission. In conclusion, the paper observes that: "There will always be laws and subsequent crime. As long as there is crime, there will be a need for the police and crime prevention. Because crime reaches all levels of society, invades all environments, and is committed by a broad spectrum of offenders, its prevention will require a myriad of [sic] approaches." References
