MAJOR MODELS OF TREATMENT BEING USED IN COMMUNITY TREATMENT CENTERS ARE DESCRIBED, INCLUDING THE THERAPEUTIC COMMUNITY, TOKEN ECONOMICS, TRANSACTIONAL ANALYSIS, REALITY THERAPY, AND LIFE SKILLS TRAINING.
Abstract
ELEMENTS OF THESE MODELS OF TREATMENT ARE AS FOLLOWS: (1) THERAPEUTIC COMMUNITY (EXPLORATION THROUGH ADMISSION PROCEDURES AND ENCOUNTER GROUP TECHNIQUES), (2) TOKEN ECONOMY (BEHAVIORAL OBSERVATION AND THE SPECIFICATION OF UNACCEPTABLE OR DEFICIT BEHAVIOR), (3) TRANSACTIONAL ANALYSIS (PRIMARY EXPLORATION IN GROUPS), (4) REALITY THERAPY (INVOLVEMENT, BEHAVIORAL OBSERVATION AND EVALUATION, BEHAVIORAL FEEDBACK, AND ASSESSMENT OF PHYSICAL CONDITION AND LIFESTYLE AS WELL AS INTELLIGENCE AND VOCATIONAL INTERESTS), AND (5) HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT OR LIFE SKILLS TRAINING (ATTENDING AND RESPONDING, UNCONDITIONAL REGARD, OBVIOUS AND ACCURATE EMPATHY, CONCRETENESS, AND SELF-EXPLORATION). PROCESSES INVOLVED IN THE MODELS TO PROVIDE APPROPRIATE TREATMENT AND TO ENHANCE SELF-UNDERSTANDING OF PROBLEMS ARE IDENTIFIED. A TRAINING OUTLINE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SYSTEMATIC HELPING SKILLS AND A LIST OF SYSTEMATIC HELPING SKILLS ARE INCLUDED. REFERENCES ARE CITED (DEP)
