DESCRIBES PROGRAM WHICH AIMS TO PROVIDE A COMPREHENSIVE COUNSELING PROGRAM FOR JUVENILES, PROVIDE AN ACADEMIC TUTORING PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS, RECRUIT AND TRAIN VOLUNTEER COUNSELORS, AND COORDINATE COMMUNITY RESOURCES.
Abstract
PEOPLE'S PLACE II FUNCTIONS AS A COMMUNITY COUNSELING CENTER WORKING WITH A TARGET POPULATION OF PRE-DELINQUENT AND DELINQUENT YOUTH BETWEEN THE AGES OF TEN AND EIGHTEEN. TO DATE, THE CENTER HAS FOUND BOTH COMMUNITY AND PROFESSIONAL ACCEPTANCE IN THE BI-COUNTY AREA. TWO PRIMARY STAGES IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS GRANT WERE THE RECRUITMENT AND TRAINING OF VOLUNTEER COUNSELORS AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CLIENT CASELOAD. AT PRESENT, THE VOLUNTEER COUNSELING STAFF OF PEOPLE'S PLACE II IS COMPRISED OF SIXTEEN INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE RECEIVED TRAINING IN AT LEAST SIXTEEN SESSIONS PRIOR TO THEIR FUNCTIONING AS COUNSELORS. IN ADDITION, TWELVE INDIVIDUALS HAVE RECENTLY VOLUNTEERED FOR COUNSELING DUTIES, AND ARE PRESENTLY ENGAGED IN A SIXTEEN WEEK TRAINING PROGRAM. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
