PROGRAM FOR JUDGES TO BECOME MORE INTIMATELY AWARE OF THE OPERATIONS AND PROGRAMS OF THE STATE CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS AND TO DIRECTLY ASSIST IN IMPROVING THE CORRECTIONAL SYSTEM.
Abstract
JUDGES VISIT INSTITUTIONS AND PARTICIPATE IN EXCHANGES WITH ADMINISTRATORS, RESIDENTS, STAFF, AND VARIOUS AUTHORITIES IN THE FIELD. THE PURPOSE OF THE EVALUATION STUDY WAS TO REPORT ON THE OBSERVATIONS AND CONCLUSIONS OF THE JUDGES WITH REGARD TO IMPROVING THE CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS; TO RECOMMEND A PLAN OF ACTION FOR FUTURE JUDICIARY TRAINING IN CORRECTIONS; AND TO RECOMMEND WAYS AND MEANS TO BRING ABOUT A CLOSER WORKING RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE TRIAL JUDGES AND THE AGENCIES ADMINISTERING CRIMINAL JUSTICE IN THE STATE.
